Our RV Road Trip Essentials

This week is good for us to consider packing for our upcoming RV trip. Perhaps if we start early, we can save a few arguments on our way to what we believe will be a big adventure from New Jersey to Ohio, maybe! Road trips usually get spicy in my family; with all the prominent personalities and leadership traits, we tend to find ourselves passionately discussing how things should go. Of course, too much spice can be overwhelming, so let's dial back the arguments by reviewing our top essentials for our RV trip to ensure an enjoyable journey.

Totes

We have a ton of transporting to get our stuff from the garage (our staging area) to our cars to the RV rental and back. We're staging our kitchen supplies, games, linens, clothes, and toiletries, and the best essential to move these items will be these handy totes we picked up on Amazon.

These Rubbermaid totes are the best for hauling things back and forth during our packing and unpacking of the RV. There will be no disputes about who carried more. The totes come in standard sizes; everyone grabs one, and let's go! The best part of this strategy is the totes are re-useable. After cleaning our camping items, we can keep them in the totes for storage or repurpose them for holiday decoration storage (always needed in our house) or for our NJ House of Coral small business. My husband uses totes for water changes and other processes in his shop, so we could easily repurpose the totes. Speaking of water, this brings us to the following essential items we will take.

Water Bottles & Coffee

Our water bottles have been essential for many, many trips to date. We splurged for Denice when she went through her Visco girl phase and bought the Hydro Flask. We will need water to hydrate but also to do some maintenance with the RV. We plan to limit the number of plastic bottles, but we will bring a few gallon-sized jugs and our water bottles.

Now, if we forget the coffee supplies, that will be the first item we stop to replace! Some of us in the family are happier campers with their coffee. Coffee is an E-S-S-E-N-T-I-A-L item! David and I were gifted Death Wish coffee this past holiday season, and we enjoyed it, so we're throwing some of the pods and the coffee maker in the totes for the trip.

Toiletries and Tools

Hopped up on coffee, we will be all set to take on any challenge of the day, including any mishaps. As coffee and a good hearty breakfast will lead to the need for toiletries and sprays, this is our third category of essential items. I'm sure you can smell what I'm getting at, but other than the items for the bathroom, we'll need things like toothpaste and bug spray too. The bug spray is super crucial if we want to avoid lots of whining about itchy bites. Should the rig get clogged, we'll also have tools like wrenches and screwdrivers on board to address any trouble with the rig.

Medications & Meditation

As I suffer from bipolar disorder, I must remember my medication daily, so it doesn't mean I neglect taking it because I'm on holiday. I will also bring my essential oils that calm, encourage sleep, and ease headaches. Staying with my usual medication management routine and meditation ensures no unnecessary factors contribute to my mood or the enjoyment of our road trip. The natural healing of our hearts comes from food, so next, we'll talk about all the snacks we plan to pack.

Snacks & Picnic Baskets

Cookies, trail mix, and chips. We could go on and on about the snacks and stuff we will pack in our picnic baskets. Eh boo boo

Chargers & Electronic Devices

Some may be surprised about this. We thought at first we'd have a device-free vacation and connect on the trip, but we have three teenagers. We thought disconnecting them from their social groups and electronic gaming while on vacation would be torturous. So we will allow moderate electronic usage on the RV trip to keep calm. In addition, we will use the Audible app to download books as I hope to bring listening to audiobooks to the forefront over gaming.

If we forget anything else on this trip, we will fair out okay, at least from the standpoint of keeping calm and RVing on. To continue following us on this RV adventure and future travels, join our mailing list or follow us on social media.
