Meeting Characters & Mixing Drinks on the Disney Dream

For many kids and adults, meeting their favorite Disney character is the highlight of their Disney experience. Any adult can tell you the fun that can be had when adult beverages are involved. These two activities didn't mix on our cruise on the Disney Dream this past November, but let me tell you about all the fun we had meeting characters and participating in one of the ship's mixology classes!

On Day Four of the cruise, we found ourselves being the characters, playing the part of pirates on Disney Pirate of the Caribbean night. Passengers can dance, eat, and enjoy characters dressed in pirate costumes with select Disney sailings. On all the sailings I've been on with Disney, the passengers also take the opportunity to live a pirate's life by dressing up. We had a chance to meet Chip and Dale and see many of the characters at the deck party. We retired on Day Four after a lovely night with a themed dinner and dancing, but the character's meeting would commence in the morning.

Princess Tiana is the character I aim to see every Disney trip. I love her work ethic! On Day Five, I left the cabin early to meet my beignet-making queen above the ship's atrium. We waited while a pianist played enchanting music below us. I watched eagerly as Princess Tiana greeted each guest- primarily children, but I couldn't wait to see her again. When it was my turn, we had a lovely conversation about breakfast. Another thing I love about her is that we can converse about food! But the next activity had nothing to do with food; I should have eaten a little more before attending.

After lunch, we headed to Skyline Lounge for the Mixology Class. We had grabbed a last-minute reservation on the cruise app and wanted to see what it was all about. About 35 of us were in the class, and we all sat in comfortable seats around the lounge facing the bar for instruction. The glasses were all set up at the bar. The instructing bartender was informative and entertaining, and he had two assistant bartenders supporting the class with the demonstration. The atmosphere made it seem as if you were in some elite club, and I enjoyed the changing bar scenes in Skyline. It is an activity I highly recommend if you want adult beverages. Smiling ear to ear from having met my favorite character and having consumed some cocktails, we rounded out this day by enjoying the sunset.

I write this to inspire you to explore Disney cruising and all the activities they have to offer. If you've been itching to meet a character, this may be the Disney experience for you. I remember waiting in the rain to meet Tiana for the first time at the parks; on a cruise, the weather almost always permits for character meets.
