Autumn in Vermont

Don't dread the end of Summer—we all know that fall is everyone's favorite season! With cozy sweater weather, stunning fall foliage, and plenty of outdoor fun, we have some ideas for getting out there and enjoying all that autumn offers.

The tiny state of Vermont has a reputation for fall foliage and breweries. The state claims more breweries per capita than any other state in the United States. Vermont's most popular brews are the hazy IPAs. They are often called New England IPAs, East Coast IPAs, or Vermont IPAs. They are aromatic and hoppy but don't have the bitter bite seen in their West Coast counterparts.

Pair the crisp taste of a beer with the autumn-scented air, the crunch of fallen leaves, and maybe some sweet-tart apple cider, and you have the making of a great fall getaway. Mid-September to the end of October is when peak foliage is observed, depending on weather conditions. Forest covers 70% of Vermont, giving it the country's highest concentration of maple trees. From scenic lift rides to scenic drives and outdoor recreation, there are several ways to enjoy what Vermont offers.

The culinary scene is to be noticed in Vermont, especially in Burlington. Aged cheddar, local "creemees" (soft-serve), and maple syrup are among the favorites of Vermont. Some syrup producers stay open year-round so visitors can see the marvel of making syrup during the fall off-season.

If you intend to make it a beer-focused weekend, stay in Burlington so you can walk Pine St. to take in all the tastes of ciders, ales, and IPAs. To experience Vermont's rural character, take some time to explore less-populated areas of the state. Start by heading into the Green Mountains.

We all can agree life is better when we take it slow and look around. Whether traveling solo or with family and friends, there are many opportunities to discover something new and recharge. Days in Vermont can be unplanned or as full as you desire. Dreaming starts here.
